Architecture Day: Fryšava pod Žákovou horou - Art at Medlov

The functionalist building of Hotel Medlov was constructed in 1933 by entrepreneur Leoš Stehlík according to a design by architect Alois Wachsman. Originally it served as a hotel with a girls' camp. Between 1968 and 1973, the building underwent extensive modernist renovation designed by architect Jiří Herzán, which gave it its present appearance - a striking "V"-shaped roof on columns, metal railings, and characteristic birch-concrete plaster.

The all-day programme offers a series of themed tours: from architecture through artworks and original furnishings to the building's technical infrastructure. The route includes Stehlík's fireplace, a wine bar with sculptures, a connecting passage with the sculpture "The Bride", a portico with the sculpture "Living Spring", a wrought-iron grille in the winter garden, a reception with a painted map and figurines from Expo 58, and a beach with mosaic. The programme also features special routes with views and a tour of Antonín Šuman's exhibition showcasing his iconic chairs.

The collection of artworks in the interior and exterior includes works by Alfred Habermann, Jan Kodet, Igor Šalamoun, Karel Souček, and Jaroslav Ježek.
