Architecture Day: Fryšava pod Žákovou horou - Medlov Technical

The functionalist Medlov Hotel was built in 1933 by entrepreneur Leoš Stehlík according to architect Alois Wachsman's design. Originally serving as a hotel with a girls' camp, the building underwent extensive modernist renovation between 1968 and 1973 under architect Jiří Herzán, giving it its distinctive appearance - a striking V-shaped roof on columns, metal railings, and characteristic birch-plywood plaster.

The all-day programme features a series of themed tours: from architecture through artworks and original furniture to the building's technical infrastructure. The technical route leads through the telephone exchange, boiler room, coal storage, and includes projection equipment, cooling boxes, ventilation systems, and connections between both buildings. The programme also includes special tours with views, demonstrations of the original facade and entrance solutions, and a tour of Antonín Šuman's exhibition featuring his iconic chairs in the hotel spaces.
