Architecture Day: Fryšava pod Žákovou horou - Room at Medlov

The functionalist building of Hotel Medlov was constructed in 1933 by entrepreneur Leoš Stehlík according to a design by architect Alois Wachsman. Originally it served as a hotel with a girls' camp. Between 1968 and 1973, the building underwent extensive modernist renovation designed by Jiří Herzán, which gave it its current appearance - a striking "V"-shaped roof on columns, metal railings, and characteristic birch-plaster facade.

As part of Architecture Day, a preserved room from the renovation period will be open to visitors. It was designed by Jiří Herzán and Oldřich Plhoň in collaboration with the hotel's current owners. Visitors will see the original furnishings and a balcony with views over the Žďárské vrchy landscape.

The all-day programme features a series of themed tours - from architecture through artworks and original furniture to the building's technical infrastructure. The schedule also includes scenic routes and a tour of an exhibition of Antonín Šuman's iconic chairs displayed throughout the hotel.
