Dialogue of Music and Dance Creation from HAMU and HF JAMU Students' Perspective — Theatre Na Orlí, Brno

An evening from the New Generation series takes place on Tuesday, October 20, 2026 at the Theatre on Orlí in Brno. The programme features four short works by choreography students from HAMU and composition students from HF JAMU and HAMU as part of a joint project between the Music Production Department of HF JAMU and the Dance Department of HAMU.

Alice Silná: "The Old Man and the Sea"

"Fish, we are against each other - and yet together."

A quiet conversation that Santiago has with his catch forms the core of this dance adaptation: a dialogue between two beings who are simultaneously opponents and allies. The production combines contemporary dance, object work, and visual imagery, touching on themes of pride, respect for nature, and intergenerational tension.

Choreography: Alice Silná, Music: Tereza Konzalová, Sound: Jacob Strasser, Set design: Jolana Prášková, Anna Landsingerová, Lighting design: Vojtěch Brtnický, Rigging: Jakub Kohout, Production: Viktorie Čápová, Photography: Anna Smutná, Pedagogical guidance: Mgr. Jan Kodet

Performers: Richard Janča (The Old Man), Jonáš Snítil (The Fish), David Rott (Manolin), David Horák (Fisherman/Shark), Zuzana Dobešová (Fisherman/Shark), Antonie Zelbová (Fisherman/Shark)

Vladlena Klimek: "The Hunger Artist"

The production takes Kafka's motif of starvation as an endless cycle of replaceability: the exhausted body is removed only to make room for another. The physical struggle with time is embodied in a melting block of ice - the pace of movement is not determined by music, but by the relentless rhythm of dripping water until complete collapse. On the wet ground, the boundary between care and self-destruction blurs, human identity transforms into mere mechanical function.

Where in the tempo of its own melting does space remain for a person who can no longer keep up?
