Architecture Day 2026: Fryšava pod Žákovou horou - Hotel Medlov

The functionalist Hotel Medlov building in the Žďár Mountains was built in 1933 by entrepreneur Leoš Stehlík according to architect Alois Wachsman's design. Originally serving as a hotel with a girls' camp, the building underwent extensive modernist renovation between 1968-1973 under architect Jiří Herzán, giving it its distinctive appearance - a striking "V"-shaped roof on columns, metal railings, and characteristic birch-plywood plaster.

As part of Architecture Day 2026, the hotel will open its spaces and present the history and present-day reality of the building through the eyes of its current owners. The all-day programme will feature a series of themed tours - from architecture through artworks and original furniture to technical facilities. The programme will also include a tour of an exhibition of Antonín Šuman and his iconic chairs, plus special routes with scenic views.
