THE NECKS
Australian experimental jazz trio The Necks brings their signature long-form improvisations to Prague, gradually building from quiet origins into rich sonic landscapes.
The Necks are an avant-garde jazz trio from Sydney, Australia, formed in 1987 by pianist Chris Abrahams, drummer Tony Buck, and bassist Lloyd Swanton. Their music - typically a single, hour-long improvisation per album - builds on slowly evolving repeating figures, drawing equally from jazz, krautrock, and minimalism. Over more than three decades they have released more than twenty studio albums, won two ARIA Awards, and were ranked 49th on Rolling Stone Australia's list of the 50 greatest Australian artists of all time in 2020.
The Necks released the triple album Disquiet (October 10, 2025) - their first triple CD lasting over three hours, containing four extensive improvisations.
Disquiet is the twentieth studio recording of the trio and marks the 39th year of the band's existence.
The Necks performed at Jazz&Wine of Peace 2025 in Cormons, Italy (October 22-25, 2025) alongside Nubyi Garcia and James Brandon Lewis.
In October 2024 they released the album Bleed - a single 42-minute composition, which bassist Lloyd Swanton called the quietest record the trio has ever recorded.
In November 2025 the trio performed in Prague, Berlin and Warsaw as part of a European tour.
