The Damned

About

The Damned are a London punk band who, since forming in 1976, hold several historical firsts: the first British group to release a punk single ("New Rose", 1976), a debut album ("Damned Damned Damned", 1977), and the first to tour the United States. The founding lineup - vocalist Dave Vanian, guitarist Brian James, bassist Captain Sensible and drummer Rat Scabies - was a key influence on both hardcore punk and gothic rock. The band remains active and in 2026 celebrates fifty years together.

The Damned performed a jubilee concert for the band's 50th anniversary at London's OVO Arena Wembley (April 11, 2026) with guests Marc Almond, Peter Hook & The Light and The Courettes.

The band released their thirteenth studio album "Not Like Everybody Else" (January 23, 2026, earMusic) - the cover versions pay tribute to founding guitarist Brian James, who died in March 2025.

The Damned cancelled planned performances in Seattle, Portland and Vancouver due to a "catastrophic event" at the home of one of the band members.

Brian James (March 6, 2025), founding guitarist and main composer of The Damned's debut album, died at the age of 70.
