Onyx is a hardcore hip-hop group from South Jamaica, Queens, New York, active since 1988. The duo of Fredro Starr and Sticky Fingaz broke through with their debut album Bacdafucup (1993), which went platinum and won Best Rap Album at the Soul Train Music Awards. Their single 'Slam' peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped the Hot Rap Singles chart, becoming one of the most sampled tracks of the 1990s. The group has remained active for over three decades, releasing new material and touring internationally.
Onyx released a new studio album Lower East Side on April 11, 2025 on the X-Ray Records label; Lord Nez handled the production of the entire album.
Before the album's release, the band released the single and music video Tear Shit Up as a preview of the upcoming project.
Onyx are part of the It Ain't Nothing But Music tour in June 2026 with D12 and Treach (Naughty by Nature), with a date in Bristol.
In August 2026, Onyx are planning to perform at the Old but Gold Hip Hop Festival Schweiz in Kempttal in Switzerland.
Onyx are confirmed for DJ Cassidy's Pass The Mic Live! event in Atlantic City in August 2026.
