Mike Oldfield (born 15 May 1953 in Reading, England) is a British multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer whose debut album Tubular Bells (1973) - the first release on Virgin Records - sold an estimated 15 million copies worldwide. The 19-year-old Oldfield played nearly every instrument himself, and the album's opening theme gained global recognition after its use in the horror film The Exorcist. Over five decades he released more than twenty albums spanning progressive rock, new age and electronic music, before announcing his retirement in 2023.
The Best of Tubular Bells I, II & III tour continues in September and October 2026 across Europe and in October 2026 across the United Kingdom.
In October 2025, a remastered double vinyl of the album Amarok (1990) was released by UMC on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the recording.
Music On Vinyl released in September 2025 a limited edition of the album Voyager on purple vinyl in a run of 1,000 copies.
In June 2025, an exclusive remaster of the album Hergest Ridge (1974) was released on Blu-ray with all eight mix versions including a new Dolby Atmos mix.
Oldfield ended his music career in 2023; his last studio album remains Return to Ommadawn (2017).
