About

Mike Oldfield (born 15 May 1953 in Reading, England) is a British multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer whose debut album Tubular Bells (1973) - the first release on Virgin Records - sold an estimated 15 million copies worldwide. The 19-year-old Oldfield played nearly every instrument himself, and the album's opening theme gained global recognition after its use in the horror film The Exorcist. Over five decades he released more than twenty albums spanning progressive rock, new age and electronic music, before announcing his retirement in 2023.
