Josef Škvorecký (1924–2012) was a Czech writer, translator, and publisher. He is best known for novels such as The Cowards (Zbabělci), depicting Czech life under Nazi occupation and communist rule. After the 1968 Soviet invasion he emigrated to Canada, where he and his wife Zdena Salivarová co-founded Sixty-Eight Publishers, a press dedicated to Czech literature in exile.
