Hildegard of Bingen (1098–1179) was a German Benedictine abbess, mystic, composer, and writer. She composed a large body of sacred music, most notably the Symphonia armonie celestium revelationum, alongside visionary theological works. In 2012 she was declared a Doctor of the Church, cementing her place as one of the most significant figures of medieval spiritual culture.
