František Kupka (1871–1957) was a Czech painter and graphic artist, a pioneer of abstract art. He spent most of his life in France, where he developed a distinctive style blending Symbolism and abstraction. His work Amorpha: Fugue in Two Colours (1912) is considered one of the earliest purely abstract paintings in art history.
