Děčín Zoo - Pastýřská stěna

Děčín

About the venue

Zoo Děčín was founded in 1948 by a group of animal enthusiasts and opened to the public in spring 1949, making it the second zoo in northern Bohemia. It occupies 6 hectares on the sandstone ridge of Pastýřská stěna (Shepherd's Wall) in a woodland park, directly across the river from Děčín Castle. The zoo keeps over 500 animals of 163 species, including critically endangered ones covered by European EEP breeding programmes. A separate indoor exposition called Rajské ostrovy (Paradise Islands), about 700 m away in the town centre, presents fauna from coral reefs, tropical rainforests and mangrove coasts.
