About the venue

Hluboká Castle (Schloss Frauenberg) rises on a steep promontory above the Vltava river, about 9 km north of České Budějovice. The site began as a royal fortress in the 13th century and passed to the Schwarzenberg family in 1661; between 1840 and 1871 they rebuilt it in the romantic Neo-Gothic style modelled on Windsor Castle. The National Heritage Institute now administers the castle, which stays open year-round across several guided tour routes. The former riding hall next door houses the Aleš South Bohemian Gallery, known for its Dutch and Flemish masters.
