Dolní oblast Vítkovice is a vast industrial complex in Ostrava built around a 19th-century ironworks and coking plant. Carefully converted into a cultural hub, it hosts festivals, concerts and exhibitions. The most striking landmarks are the Gong multifunctional hall - housed in a former gasometer - and the observation deck atop blast furnace No. 1.
