Český Krumlov Castle stands on a rocky headland above the Vltava river and is the second largest castle complex in the Czech Republic after Prague Castle. The site comprises forty buildings around five courtyards and seven hectares of baroque garden, with building phases from the 14th to the 19th century preserved in remarkable completeness. In 1992 it was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List together with the historic town centre. The baroque theatre of 1767 is among the best-preserved of its kind anywhere in the world.
