The revolving auditorium in the castle garden of Český Krumlov opened in 1958 as the first of its kind in the world. During performances the seating platform rotates on its axis, turning the audience toward different playing areas spread across the park, with the Bellarie summer palace as a natural backdrop. The current structure, built by Škoda Plzeň, weighs 650 tonnes, seats 644 and is driven by four electric motors. The South Bohemian Theatre runs the summer season from June to September, bringing all four of its ensembles - drama, opera, ballet and puppet theatre.
