Castle Celebrations of Young Wine and Grape Juice
A celebration of young wine and grape juice at the chapel in Smiřice. A traditional autumn festival showcasing local wine and agricultural products.
A baroque castle chapel in Smiřice, built between 1699 and 1711 for Count Jan Josef of Sternberg. The design is attributed to Kryštof Dientzenhofer or Jan Blažej Santini - no building plans have survived. The floor plan is a slightly elongated octagon with concave-convex curved walls, and the interior has remained largely unchanged since completion. The main altarpiece, Petr Brandl's "Adoration of the Magi" (1727), is a national cultural monument in its own right; the chapel has held that status since 1995. Visits are by prior arrangement or as part of guided tours.
