Hněvín Castle

Most

About the venue

Hněvín is a neo-Gothic castle perched on the hill of the same name above Most - a historicist reconstruction, built between 1879 and 1900, of the medieval royal castle that was demolished in 1651 after the Thirty Years' War. The 21-metre lookout tower (118 steps) offers views stretching from the Ore Mountains to the Bohemian Central Highlands. The complex includes the Dr. Antonín Bečvář Observatory, an interactive exhibition about the alchemist Edward Kelley - who died here in prison in 1597 - and an open-air theatre stage. The annual Master Kelley's Day takes place every June.

Lookout tower: Apr-Oct 9:00-18:00, Nov-Mar 9:00-17:00; castle grounds free entry
