Jiří Myron Theatre

Ostrava

About the venue

Divadlo Jiřího Myrona is one of three stages of the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre (NDM) in Ostrava. The neo-Renaissance building opened in 1894 as the National House, designed by architect Josef Srb, and from 1906 it housed the first permanent Czech theatre in the city. It took its current name in 1954 and was listed as a cultural monument in 1958. A devastating fire in December 1976 forced a complete reconstruction; the theatre reopened on 28 April 1986 and now ranks among the largest stages in the Czech Republic. Musical, drama and ballet companies all perform here, with seating for over 600.
