The Treasure of the Sierra Madre

John Huston's 1948 black-and-white film follows three men searching for gold in the Mexican mountains - and gradually destroying each other. Humphrey Bogart plays a desperate drifter whose newfound wealth transforms him into a greedy and paranoid beast. Huston's father Walter played a seasoned prospector and woodsman, earning an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. John Huston himself won two more statuettes - for Best Screenplay and Best Director.

The film is considered one of the most significant works of classic Hollywood. It depicts a world where greed makes the rules and a friend will readily stab another in the back.
