About

Bruce Bennett (born Harold Herman Brix, 1906-2007) was an American actor and Olympic silver medalist whose screen career spanned more than four decades and over 140 film and television productions. A standout athlete, he won the silver medal in the shot put at the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics; a shoulder injury sustained on a film set then cost him the role of Tarzan, which went to Johnny Weissmuller. Reinventing himself in the 1940s under the name Bruce Bennett, he became a leading man at Warner Bros., with notable roles in Sahara (1943), Mildred Pierce (1945), and The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948).
