Guided Tours of Jurkovič Villa

Jurkovičova vila, Brno

Description was written before the event

Guided tour of the villa of architect Dušan Jurkovič (1868–1947). The villa was built in 1906 at the foot of Brno's Wilson Forest, at Jana Nečase Street 2 in Brno-Žabovřesky. It is one of the most significant Art Nouveau monuments in Brno – holding the same importance for Brno's Art Nouveau as the Tugendhat Villa does for Brno's functionalism. Jurkovič drew on the English Arts & Crafts movement and was inspired by the modern villas of Joseph Maria Olbrich in Darmstadt and Josef Hoffmann in Vienna. The central staircase hall connects the public areas of the ground floor with the working and private spaces on the upper floor. The villa includes a permanent exhibition "Dušan Jurkovič. Architect and His House", which continues Jurkovič's own exhibition from 1906. Guided tours of the interior take place every hour (except at noon) according to the seasonal opening hours; April–October Tuesday–Sunday 10:00–12:00 and 12:30–18:00. Tours are available from one visitor, with a maximum of 15 people per group. The basic commentary is in Czech. English or German commentary costs 30 CZK per person and must be booked in advance – by email at pokljv@moravska-galerie.cz or by phone at +420 773 773 616. Specialized architectural tours lasting over 60 minutes can also be arranged in advance: Czech commentary 300 CZK for a group of up to 15 people, English or German commentary 500 CZK for a group of up to 15 people. The villa's garden is accessible year-round.
