Butó – Fragile Dance of Nerve and Intensity of Gentleness (DANCE AND MOVEMENT WORKSHOP)
Druna - náhorní planina, Prague
A workshop in Japanese dance art Butó will lead us into the infinite space of human body transformation. We will approach the essence of the body and discover its enormous depths and possibilities in artistic expression. The core of this work comes from practice in the studio of Kazuo Ohna – a legend of world Butó. We seek movement that is not formal and is connected to true being. Instead of hundreds of graceful lines of movement, we will explore one beautiful stroke – a movement that expands into enormous space and brings us to recognize stillness within movement. The workshop is led by a remarkable choreographer and dancer, co-founder of the dance company Motimaru in Tokyo, born in the Japanese city of Nagoya. He studied Butó with Yoshita Ohna, son of Kazuo Ohna, and worked as a dancer and stage assistant. After leaving Japan in 2010, he explored local and traditional dances in India, Nepal, and Bali. Since 2008, he has devoted himself to the practice and study of Eastern contemplative traditions, particularly Tibetan. He performs and teaches in more than 35 cities in Europe, Asia, and Australia. The workshop takes place at Druna – a highland plateau, Trojická 10, Prague 2 – a center focused on the development of movement, voice, and other artistic skills.
