The Premyslids – Ruling Dynasty and Its Era Exhibition at the National Museum

Národní muzeum, Prague

The Premyslids – Ruling Dynasty and Its Era exhibition runs from 24 April to 15 October 2026 in the Historic Building of the National Museum on Wenceslas Square in Prague. Created in collaboration with the Prague Castle Administration, it presents more than 900 artefacts from the National Museum's collections and nearly seventy domestic and international institutions. This is the largest historical exhibition of recent decades in Czechia and one of the most significant projects of its kind in Europe. The exhibition is divided into four thematically and colour-coded sections (blue, green, red, black) and guides visitors from the dynasty's origins through the princely and royal eras to the Premyslids' legacy during the Luxembourg period. The exhibition traces not only the development of the ruling dynasty but also the transformation of Bohemia and Moravia from the late 8th to the early 14th century in a broader European context. Among the most significant artefacts are the Romanesque sarcophagus of the so-called Saint Longinus, displayed outside Vyšehrad for the first time, a royal crown from Świdnica, textiles from the tomb of Saint Ludmila, funeral jewels, and the sword of Premysl Otakar II, as well as the personal ring of Premysl I Otakar. The exhibition is open daily from 10:00 to 18:00. Admission includes access to the entire Museum Complex (except the Czech Press Photo exhibition and the Children's Museum).
