Bastian Baltazar Bux is an eleven-year-old boy living with his parents in an ordinary house in an ordinary neighbourhood. But then his mother falls ill, and everything turns upside down: his classmates begin to bully him, his new teacher wages a systematic battle against anything unusual, and his father changes before his eyes - wrinkles appear and you never know when his anger will erupt.

Bastian finds refuge in a mysterious book that miraculously falls into his hands. He finds himself in Fantasia - an endless realm inhabited by mythical creatures - where the heroine Atreyu fights to save the entire kingdom and needs his help. Bastian wants to return home as quickly as possible, but what about the Nothing? What if it comes for his world too?
