Josef Sudek and Friends – Journey to the North

Severočeská galerie výtvarného umění v Litoměřicích, Litoměřice

The exhibition Josef Sudek and Friends – Journey to the North was created in collaboration with the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague and is installed in the main exhibition building of the North Bohemian Gallery of Fine Arts in Litoměřice (Michalská 29/7). The opening took place on 26 March 2026 and the exhibition is accessible until 28 June 2026. It is held in the 130th anniversary year of Sudek's birth and the 50th anniversary of his death. The curator is Jan Mlčoch, curator of the photography collection at the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague. The exhibition explores the creative encounter of photographer Josef Sudek (1896–1976) with artists with whom he shared an interest in the landscape of the Krušné Mountains and the Bohemian Highlands from the second half of the 1940s to the 1960s. Through photographs and artworks, it reveals not only the transformation of this landscape but also the personal connections and creative dialogue between individual artists. The curator selected three artists with ties to northern Bohemia: painter Emil Filla (1882–1953), graphic artist Václav Sivek (1923–1974), and another artist. Works are displayed from the collections of the North Bohemian Gallery of Fine Arts in Litoměřice and on loan from the Benedikt Rejt Gallery in Louny, the Gallery of Modern Art in Roudnice nad Labem, and the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague. Guided tours of the exhibition are conducted by curator Jan Mlčoch; admission with a valid exhibition ticket, no reservation required.
