A young Romanian-Norwegian family, the Gheorghius (Renate Reinsve and Sebastian Stan), settle in a remote village by Norwegian fjords, beginning a new life. Their warm welcome by neighbours is disrupted by an unexpected accusation that shatters their peaceful existence.

An investigation and court case unfold, pitting traditional family values against Norway's strict child protection regulations. Cristian Mungiu's moral drama about cultural collision, parental love, and the right to decide one's children's fate won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival.
