David Binney & Louis Cole & Pera Krstajic

A modern jazz trio bringing together three distinctive voices of today's music scene: drummer, composer and multi-instrumentalist Louis Cole, saxophonist and composer David Binney, and bassist Pera Krstajic. The project performs as Action Trio as part of JazzFest Brno.

Louis Cole stands among the most prominent musicians of his generation. A Grammy Award winner, he has made his mark as a drummer, composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist - playing drums, keyboards, guitar and bass. He cites Tony Williams, Flying Lotus and Nate Wood as influences. He built his audience independently of major media support: before his international breakthrough, he had released six self-produced albums that shaped his now instantly recognizable style. He gained worldwide attention through his own compositions and the Grammy-nominated album Quality Over Opinion. He is a cult figure among both bedroom producers and drummers, inspiring them with his precise, electronically-influenced style informed by video game soundtracks. As a musician and producer, he works across a wide range of genres - from the avant-pop project KNOWER through collaborations with Thundercat, Brad Mehldau and David Binney to his own experimental projects.

David Binney has released more than thirty albums as a leader and participated in hundreds of recordings as a studio and live musician. He has collaborated with Gil Evans, Norah Jones, Chris Potter, Aretha Franklin, Jamiroquai and Maceo Parker, among others. He also contributed to David Bowie's final studio album Blackstar. JazzTimes magazine named him one of the figures who shaped the alternative jazz scene of recent decades.

The trio is completed by bassist Pera Krstajic, who bridges Binney's compositional thinking with Cole's energy, creating the rhythmic and harmonic foundation of the entire project.
