Hrady CZ 2026 - Veveří
Hrad Veveří, Brno
Hrady CZ is a summer cultural festival; its 21st edition will take place in summer 2026 across eight historic monuments in various regions of the Czech Republic. The programme features top performers from the Czech and Slovak music scene — among the first confirmed headliners are Daniel Landa, Rybičky 48, Mirai, Trautenberk, and MIG 21. The Saturday ticket price includes guided tours of the castle's permanent exhibitions.
Veveří Castle is first mentioned in historical records in 1213, originally as a hunting lodge or residence of the Moravian margraves. It developed into a stone castle probably before the mid-13th century. It was significantly expanded to its present size after the mid-14th century under the rule of Moravian margrave Jan Jindřích, the younger brother of Emperor Charles IV. Significant late Renaissance reconstructions took place in the early 17th century; in 1645, Veveří was one of the few fortifications in the area that withstood the Swedish siege of Brno.
The last aristocratic owner, Arnold De Forest Bischofsheim, sold the castle and estate to the Czechoslovak state in 1925. In the early 1950s, the complex was adapted for a forestry school, dormitory, and factory training school. Since the 1990s, gradual reconstruction has been ongoing, and since 2002 the castle has offered guided tours of continuously changing temporary exhibitions during the season, allowing visitors to follow the progress of the work on repeat visits.
