In the Flash of Lightning
A theatrical performance for children, their parents, and everyone who wants to speak the language of art and magic.
They enter a landscape. A sketchbook is their map. They follow the traces of Joseph Beuys. He flew first, then was shot down, but recovered, became an artist, and wore a hat. He drew lines and spent his whole life asking what art is. What kind of language can we speak together somewhere beyond rational understanding? It resists, yet attracts and entices, revealing the invisible. Just like magic.
Robert Smolík and Veronika Vlková together examine the work and legacy of visual artist, performer, pedagogue, and art theorist Joseph Beuys. His thinking brought a significant shift in the 1970s to the understanding of art as part of every person's life and as a way to change the world.
"In the Flash of Lightning" combines theatrical performance and exhibition with elements of séance, healing ritual, and celebration of creation. It invites everyone who is not afraid to get muddy into a landscape of objects hiding the seed of transformation - Smolík and Vlková search here in quiet dialogue for ways to renew our relationship with the Earth and its inhabitants.
As an author duo, they continue their previous collaboration with Terén on the performance "A Visit", which was presented in South Korea, Mexico, Finland, Croatia, Slovakia, and at numerous domestic festivals.
