Architecture Beyond Four Borders: Szymon Rozwałka (PL)

Architecture and heritage conservation often refuse to tolerate what they did not create themselves. Every contradiction, improvisation, inconsistency, dirt, or kitsch is perceived as a weed that must be removed — much like in Zygmunt Bauman's metaphorical gardener, disrupting an imaginary perfection that is, in its modernist militancy, blind, intolerant, and unchanging.

Polish-Czech architect Szymon Rozwałka, working at the Faculty of Architecture at Brno University of Technology, will argue against this obsession with purity, control, and the elimination of difference. He draws on examples from his own practice, student projects from the Institute of Experimental Creation at Brno University of Technology, and selected realizations in Poland. He will focus on finding beauty in architecture "on the margins" — architecture of contradiction, uncertainty, and imperfection.
