Schools – Medieval Painter's Workshop — St. Agnes Convent, Prague

A school programme at the Convent of St. Agnes focuses on Charles IV, his court painter Theodoric, Karlštejn Castle, and the Chapel of the Holy Cross. Participants will learn about the operation of a medieval painter's workshop, the technique of creating panel paintings, and terms such as master, journeyman, apprentice, workshop, pattern book, and more.

The programme begins with an activity in the exhibition, then the children's studio transforms into a "real Theodoric workshop", where participants create their own work using medieval technique – egg tempera painting.

The goal of the programme is to familiarize participants through visual and tactile experience with medieval painting: workshop operations, basic iconography, the meaning of symbols and attributes, and painting technique, while also developing manual skills and creativity.

The programme relates to the works of Master Theodoric: St. Luke, St. Matthew, St. Charlemagne, St. Catherine, St. Ambrose, St. Gregory the Great, the Vyšebrod Cycle, and others.
