Charles IV (1316–1378) was King of Bohemia and Holy Roman Emperor, one of the most influential rulers of medieval Europe. He founded Prague's New Town, Charles Bridge, and Karlštejn Castle, and was a great patron of the arts, including court painter Master Theodoric.
