Filharmonie G. Mahlera Jihlava brings Famous Compositions for Organ and Strings to Želiv on Sunday, 14 June 2026. The concert takes place in the Opatský kostel Narození Panny Marie, a Romanesque-Gothic abbey church within the Premonstratensian monastery complex, with origins dating to the 12th century. The chamber orchestra, conducted by Jiří Jakeš, and organist Lukáš Dvořák present classical works from Bach to Brixi. The programme includes compositions by Bach, Händel, Mozart, and other masters. About the venue: Opatský kostel Narození Panny Marie

The abbey church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary stands within the grounds of the Premonstratensian monastery founded in 1139. Its current form dates from a rebuilding in 1714-1720 designed by Jan Blažej Santini-Aichel in his distinctive Gothic-Baroque style. The interior retains rich Baroque furnishings - the high altar from the early 18th century and carved choir stalls with inlaid work. Santini also designed the window above the main entrance so that sunlight forms a crown of light over the altarpiece on the feast of the Nativity of the Virgin. Together with the monastery, the church has been a national cultural monument since 2010.
