ArtCafé: Graham Fitkin – Treeline

British composer and pianist Graham Fitkin brings his Treeline project to Broumov's ArtCafé – a one-hour musical composition for piano and a unique "forest instrument" created during a 2,500-mile cycling journey across Europe. The project focuses on trees, landscape, and biodiversity; one of its stops was Broumov last year, where Fitkin worked with the local community to collect sounds, data, and stories connected to a selected tree. Field recordings from various corners of Europe – from the Carpathians to England's Epping Forest – have been transformed into this work.

Graham Fitkin is a prominent figure in contemporary British music. In his work, he combines contemporary music, field recordings, community engagement, and themes of landscape, science, and social change. He has collaborated with the London Chamber Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, and BBC Orchestras; his music has also been featured in projects by New York City Ballet and London's Tate Gallery.
