ArtCafé: Filip Żółtowski Quartet | Yolk (PL)
A Polish quartet from Gdańsk, originally known as Filip Żółtowski Quartet, now performs under the name YOLK. The band was formed in 2020 and has released two albums - Humanity (2021) and BiBi (2024).
YOLK's music is built on jazz improvisation interwoven with electronics, hip-hop beats, and contemporary production. Their sound draws influences from Steve Coleman, Theo Croker, and Brad Mehldau, combined with production styles of Flume, Medasina, and J Dilly. Synthesizers and electronic textures blend naturally with acoustic instruments.
The band has performed at Jazz Jantar, Lublin Jazz Festival, and Český rozhlas Jazz Fest, and has also played in the prestigious JAZZ.PL series of Polish Radio. They placed third in the Blue Note Competition and received an award from the JazzPoPolsku foundation at the Jazz Juniors competition.
Line-up: Filip Żółtowski (trumpet), Szymon Zawodny (saxophone), Wojciech Wojda (keyboards, synthesizers), Mikołaj Stańko (drums, percussion).
