Discover the Sternberg Family Seat – A Family Tour of Český Šternberk Castle

Hrad Český Šternberk, Český Šternberk

A special guided tour of Český Šternberk Castle for families with children, led by a knowledgeable guide who brings ancient history to life. The route takes you through fifteen richly furnished rooms on the castle's second floor, where the Sternberg family lived until the building was nationalised in 1949. Through engaging activities and questions, children learn why knights had coats of arms, how the castle was conquered, whether the castle could be flooded, and what the silver treasure looks like.

The tour includes the Knights' Hall with early Baroque stucco decoration, a library, a dining room that serves as a family gallery, the study of Jiří Sternberg, and a room dedicated to Kašpar, Count Sternberg, co-founder of the National Museum. Part of the exhibition is a unique collection of 545 prints from the Thirty Years' War period—one of Europe's largest single-themed collections of engravings.

The tour is recommended for children aged 5 to 10. Groups of at least 10 people can book the tour in advance for times outside the regular schedule. There is a café, Café Český Šternberk, on the castle courtyard. Parking is available approximately 250 m from the castle. Animals are not permitted inside the castle interiors. The tour is not wheelchair accessible.
