Český Šternberk Castle

Český Šternberk

About the venue

A Gothic castle perched on a rocky spur above the Sázava river, some 40 km southeast of Prague. Zdeslav of Divišov founded it in 1241 and named it after the eight-pointed golden star in his coat of arms - Sternberg, meaning "star mountain". What makes it remarkable is its unbroken connection to the Sternberg family, who have owned it for nearly 800 years and still do today. The interiors feature Baroque stucco decoration, a Knights' Hall with 17th-century plasterwork, and a notable collection of engravings from the Thirty Years' War.
