Photographic Perspectives 1948 – Slaný at a Turning Point

Vlastivědné muzeum ve Slaném, Slaný

A series of large-scale, ultra-wide panoramic photographs captures Slaný in the "revolutionary" year of 1948 – a turbulent post-war period full of change, before the later socialist construction boom began. The photographs are by Věra and Miroslav Chalupníčků. Panoramic perspectives were a popular theme in the Czech environment of the first half of the 20th century: photographs were taken to document urban layout, historic buildings, and squares in a single enlarged strip of image with high detail, where the width of the image is many times greater than its height. Technically exceptional photographs, each assembled from multiple individual shots, have been digitized and cleaned for the exhibition. The exhibition is supplemented with information about Slaný during the difficult period when the panoramas were created. The photographs are on display for the first time. The exhibition runs in the exhibition hall on the 1st floor of the museum from April 23 to June 30, 2026.
