My Hooves Have Already Ploughed the Earth
Theatre Husa na Provázku, Brno
Seeking Common Ground
A dog licking itself in the sun is probably lonely. Elephants give each other names and collectively mourn the loss of a loved one. Octopuses fall into despair over overfishing. Monkeys have fits of laughter. Animals too experience fear, sadness, love, and joy. This original production gives them space and brings situations from distant savannas, forgotten shelters, or cramped studio apartments to the centre of the stage. Perhaps the audience will then find the unwritable languages like "tuk, splash, vrrr, hudry-hudry" no longer foreign — and perhaps they will say more than all the expert books about the ecological crisis.
A fragile encounter full of poetic stagecraft and songs of animal innocence and experience that will overturn all prejudices of humankind.
Nature as commodity, metaphor, place for relaxation. Nature as an everyday story of endangered species, deforestation, and global warming. We keep talking about nature. But what stories does nature tell about us? What lives does it share with us? And what is it afraid of?
