British writer and journalist George Orwell's dystopian novel was written in 1948 and first published a year later. It soon became, thanks to its dark vision, one of the cornerstone works of world literature.

Winston Smith, a clerk at the Ministry of Truth, a weary middle-aged man, has been a reliable member of society so far – working diligently, spending his free time according to regulations, never questioning. Until now… Something inside him compelled him to buy a notebook and start keeping a diary. Something in him began asking about the past. Searching memory. Doubting. Is his country really at war, or is it a tool of manipulation through constant maintenance of fear and threat? What if the past happened differently than how it is presented to them? He knows how thoroughly reports, photographs, testimonies are altered. How dogmatically language is mutilated. What to make of the slogans: War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength?
