What Is in Being Cannot Be Taken Away

During communist totalitarianism, many members of the Catholic Church, particularly priests, came to believe that the Church needed a hidden dimension alongside its official line - whether persecuted, suffering, or collaborating with the regime - to operate in inner freedom. Gradually, rather than a unified organization, a sprawling network emerged, whose activities were complicated by the necessary secrecy to avoid exposure.
Directors Veronika Všianská and Eva Lietavová based their production on the stories of two significant figures in the Moravian part of this underground Church. Ludmila Javorová is the only woman in the Czech lands known to have been ordained as a Catholic priest - against official Church rules - by Felix Maria Davídek.
