The Miser

"The Miser" is one of Molière's most celebrated and frequently performed works. In the lead role of Harpagon, the author captures eternal human traits: unhealthy desires, greed, suspicion, and fear. Miserliness is not merely Harpagon's flaw — it is his religion, worldview, and mission, which turns all his relationships and love upside down.

Molière did not invent the miser type; he simply captured it. The character reinvents himself, changes clothes, hairstyle, political affiliation, and social origin, yet can be found in every era and in every larger community.

The title role of Harpagon is played by Pavel Zedníček — this production is a tribute to the actor on his life jubilee.
