Architecture in Times of Climate Change: Cílek/Kopp — Semler Residence, Pilsen

How can a city like Plzeň respond to climate change? What tools does it have to address its impacts? How can it manage water sustainably and mitigate high summer temperatures?

These questions are explored in the opening session of a lecture series featuring geologist and climatologist Václav Cílek from the Geological Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences and Plzeň geographer Jan Kopp from the Faculty of Economics at the University of West Bohemia.

Both will present their recent work for Plzeň's fourth district. Václav Cílek will outline the fundamental principles of creating a climate-resilient city capable of adapting to more frequent heat waves, droughts, and flash floods. Jan Kopp will follow with a presentation of the comprehensive, long-term Adaptation Strategy for Plzeň District 4 to Climate Change - a document developed by the geography department team at the Faculty of Economics, which can serve as a guide for the entire city.
