Screening of the film "Buried Hopes" and discussion with Štěpán Černouška.

The film explores the forgotten history of Soviet repression in Kyrgyzstan — uranium mines, labour camps, and shattered lives, including those of Czechoslovak citizens. Growing Russian influence continues to make knowledge of this history increasingly difficult.

In August 2024, an expedition by the organization Gulag.cz travelled to sites of this turbulent past on the occasion of the approaching 100th anniversary of the founding of the cooperative "Interhelpo" — a settlement established in Kyrgyzstan by Czech and Slovak expatriates, including a young Alexander Dubček.
