Silent Heroism Brno: Stories from the Fifties
Institut Paměti národa Brno, Brno
The permanent exhibition "Silent Heroism" is an interactive exposition mapping 20th-century history. Visitors actively participate in exploring witnesses' memories — using a tablet, they can influence the course of the adventure and shape its outcome. Unconventional projections, visual and sound effects, interactive screens, and augmented reality are available.
The exposition offers two eras; during a single visit, a visitor experiences the story of one of four witnesses, so the exhibition can be completed four times with a different outcome each time. This version focuses on "Stories from the Fifties: Milena and Leopold." (A parallel version also exists: "Stories from World War II: Jaryna and Tomáš".)
The stories of Milena and Leopold Färber were selected from more than ten thousand interviews from the Memory of the Nation collection. Both selflessly helped others at the cost of their own safety. Milena will guide visitors into the Jáchymov mines, from where she smuggled letters and where she fell in love with one of the prisoners; Leopold will lead visitors among partisans and into communist prisons of the fifties.
