Political Trials in Brno in the 1940s and 1950s

Institut Paměti národa Brno, Brno

A lecture by Vladimir Cerny on politically motivated trials that took place in Brno between 1945 and 1952.

The lecture will first focus on the period of retributive justice from 1945 to 1948, when 83 people were executed in the city, followed by trials against opponents of the communist regime before the State Court in 1948–1952. During ten trials, twelve death sentences were handed down and subsequently carried out.

The lecture will also examine Brno's prisons and the locations where executions took place between 1945 and 1952 – in some cases publicly.
