About Falstaff and Jan Werich, or One (Partially) Unfulfilled Dream.

A renowned Shakespeare scholar talks with a well-known moderator about one of the most famous characters of the Elizabethan playwright, who was something of an alter ego to Jan Werich. What makes this character so interesting and exceptional? Where did it come from? What fascinated Jan Werich so much that he devoted a theatrical play to it? And why did he ultimately never see a film version of this story?

Performers:
Prof. Martin Hilský - Shakespeare scholar
Václav Žmolík - moderator

About the venue: Werichova vila

Werich Villa (also known as Dobrovský's Cottage) is a historic listed building on Prague's Kampa island, with origins dating to the 17th century. The building originally served as a tannery, later belonged to the Nostitz family and was home to Josef Dobrovský. From 1945 until his death in 1980, actor Jan Werich lived here. Today it is run by the Jan and Meda Mládek Foundation as a multicultural arts centre with a permanent exhibition, theatre performances, concerts and workshops.
