Empowerment of Milarepa
Fortress of Knowledge - Laudon Hall, Olomouc
Empowerment is the gateway to the practice of secret mantra (Vajrayana), which forms the heart of Tibetan Buddhism. It is a ritual in which a teacher (guru, lama) introduces students to the true nature of body, speech, and mind through various examples and ritual objects. In this way, a seed is planted in the stream of the students' minds, through which they can achieve awakening by applying the methods of the secret mantra path.
This time it concerns the empowerment of Milarepa. Milarepa (11th-12th century) is a spiritual hero of Tibet, known for achieving complete awakening within a single lifetime. He overcame many difficulties and sufferings - his life is an example of patience and diligence. He is also remembered for his spiritual songs, simple in words but profound in meaning.
This initiation is connected with Milarepa's guru yoga - a method for discovering one's own natural state and awakened qualities through meditation on one's own lama, who is inseparable from Milarepa. The text was composed by Rinpoche's predecessor Jamgon Kongtrul Lodro Thaye, an eminent master of all spiritual traditions of Tibet in the 19th century.
